MARK Verabioff
“FASCIST GERD Private.”
Private Places is thrilled to announce Los Angeles based artist Mark Verabioff’s exhibition “FASCIST GERD Private.” Here the artist will be showing a suite of page tears that were scanned and reproduced into the vinyl decal that walled his installation “MARXISM AND ART BEWARE OF FASCIST BROISM” in the biennial “Made In L.A. 2016: a, the, though, only” at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles.
Since 1985 Mark Verabioff has been in a highly committed role play with the critical interrogation of form and its social-political capabilities. The artist’s work been identified with video, site- and situationist-based performative-actions, wall works, sculpture, painting, installation and context art; developing a circuitous relationship between language, aesthetics and content, moving in and out of logic, absurdity, historical provocation and seduction. His art reuses a variety of materials and sources from art history and popular culture to provoke response through the lens of a feminist discourse and visual cultural insurgency.
Mark Verabioff was born in Kingston, Ontario, Canada in 1963. The artist studied Intermedia, Performance and Video at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (1981-1985) and The Banff Centre for the Arts in 1984. Solo shows have included: 356 S. Mission Rd., Los Angeles (2014) and Night Gallery, Los Angeles (2013, 2012.) The artist’s work has been featured in Artforum, Frieze, Flash Art, C Magazine, Canadian Art, The New York Times and Los Angeles Times. His solo show, “CIVIL PISS WAR” will open January 22 at The Pit in Los Angeles, CA.
